Our Impact

Conscious Leaders In Action

Since our establishment in 2014, WMCA has engaged over 250 ethnically diverse refugee youth from low-income Rainier Valley neighborhoods to serve as socially conscious leaders. In addition to weekly mentoring, the Young Community Builders work collaboratively to identify and plan large scale events and creative projects to celebrate each other, reinforce community cohesion and co-create more vibrant neighborhoods.

Check out our youth-driven projects below!

Through WMCA's programs, disadvantaged and immigrant youth are not contained or diverted, but grow and thrive by experiencing success and honing leadership skills as they work with one another to plan, build, and celebrate community.

Rainier Vista Beautify the Block

With the help of  WMCA mentors, Rainier Vista youth planned and hosted one of the most engaging neighborhood block parties to celebrate youth voice and empowerment. To get neighbors connected to local resources, the young community builders secured participation from local organizations, small businesses, artists, and city council members. Young Community Builders also announced the premiere of their music video!

Presented By: Girls Out Here Opening Doors (G.O.O.D) &           The Build And Develop (B.A.D) Boyz

The Young Community Builders collaborated with mentors to put together this creative video project exploring environmental  stewardship, unity, and friendship.

Inter-faith Community Iftar

In celebration of their Muslim neighbors and friends, WMCA youth collaborated with mentors from Wasat & Muslim Writers Collective to host this awesome interfaith and intergenerational Ramadan Iftaar. Rainier Vista family and friends gathered to celebrate one another through food, poetry, and prayer.
